Postcard fair in Reading
Club with members in Newbury and Hungerford expecting countrywide interest
READING and District Postcard Club is hoping to attract lots of interest from people in West Berkshire at its annual fair tomorrow (Sunday, July 3).
Around 160 tables and 93 dealers are expected at the fair held by the club, which has members in Newbury and also Hungerford.
Collectors are expected from as far afield as Inverness, Cornwall, Wales, Cumbria, and Yorkshire, with common and rare postcards on offer, costing from 5p to £500.
On what might be the attraction, club spokesman, Roy Sheppard said: “Postcards like cigarette cards began over 110 years ago, mention the word ‘postcards' and most people think of the saucy seaside postcard, typified by the artist Donald Mc Gill, but very few ‘Deltioligists' (postcard collectors) collect these type of postcards, preferring instead ones of their local areas, or thematic ones.”
The fair will be from 10.30am to 4.30pm at Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading. More information can be found at www.readingpostcards.com
