Posters in bid to reduce pollution at Thatcham level crossing
District councillor Keith Woodhams (Lib Dem, Thatcham West) said that he initially requested that the posters were introduced two years ago and said he was pleased to see they were finally coming.
He said he hoped the posters would help car drivers, passengers, residents, office workers in the area and people waiting at the station.
He said: “Especially now, when it's hot, it's not good for your health.
“It’s good for the environment too to turn your engine off.
“You cannot see fumes but they are still there.”
He added: “There are different levels of train traffic coming through.
“Sometimes you could be there for about 20 minutes – if cars are stationary, fumes are still coming out.
“I think people will take notice – it’s just a reminder.
“This is just encouragement to help everybody.
“I think this is a priority for the benefit of everybody's health.”
