Power cut affects Pangbourne properties due to sub station fault
According to Graham Chandler, the crew manager of Blue Watch at Tilehurst Fire Station, one pump was called at 4pm to the sub station in Church Road:
The explosion gave off lots off smoke, he said, but Southern Electricity were handling the incident.Firefighters left the scene after about 20 minutes.
A spokesman for Southern Electric, Brian Lironi, said they were called to the incident at 3.56pm:
“There was an explosion of low voltage cable,” he said.
Power supplies were cut to surrounding properties as a result, including in Church Street and The Square, with the exact number of properties affected currently not known, according to the SEB.
A separate fault affected properties in the area earlier today, at around midday, with power restored before the second incident again cut supplies.
The SEB is currently investigating the incident.
