Power cut in Greenham

Two hundred homes affected by three-hour power shortage today (Wednesday)

TWO hundred homes in Greenham experienced a three-hour power cut this morning (Wednesday).

Residents of Bodin Gardens and surrounding areas experienced the power shortage from 8:30am.

Southern Electric confirmed that the incident was not the result of any malicious activity, or due to any difficulties in work being carried out by Southern Electric, but that it occurred because of a blown fuse in the company's high voltage network.

Debbie Allum, aged 45, of Bodin Gardens, said: “It is a rare occurrence, however almost three hours without electricity is a substantial amount of time and very inconvenient when you are caring for young children and trying to get ready for work.”

Southern Electric apologised for any inconvenience and said: “We always aim to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible.”

The company is investigating further into the cause of the power failure.
