Power cuts hit Newbury town centre today





Up to 30 businesses and properties in Market Place, Northbrook Street and Mansion House Street including NatWest, White Stuff and the British Heart Foundation charity shop have been affected.
A spokesman from Scottish and Southern Energy, Ross Easterm, confirmed that engineers were first alerted to power cuts in the area at 11:50am. Power was reconnected at 1pm, but was shortlived and businesses were plunged into darkness again by 1:10pm.
Engineers are currently on site.
Mr Eastern said: "We are working to restore electricity as quickly as possible."
He added the firm are installing a "sniffer" device underground, to alert engineers to the direct location of the problem.
"Our priority is to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Power was restored to all affected businesses at 2:20pm.
