Power finally restored in Thatcham

Three roads with 51 properties, including businesses, left without power from before 9am till after 5pm

PARTS of Thatcham were left without power for the largest part of the day today (Wednesday) after a fault in an underground cable cut electricity to 51 properties.

Southern Electric confirmed the fault was reported at 8.45am, and the electricity was only restored after 5pm.

The roads affected by the cut included Steeple View, The Broadway and Church Close.

Several businesses were affected, including solicitors firm Gardner Leader and The Old Chequers Pub, both on the Broadway.

Solicitor Richard Crumley from Gardner Leader said during the cut: “Everything is down. We rely on technology and when this happens, we can't use it.

“It is very frustrating, we are sitting here with pens and paper as if we are in the 19th century and the work is not getting done.”

Southern Electric spokeswoman Sam O'Connor has apologised for the delay in getting the power back on.
