Power restored in Newbury
Southern Electric say that power has now been restored to all properties affected by the large power cut
POWER has now been restored to all properties affected by the huge power cut in Newbury, according to Southern Electric.
A massive power cut affected most of the town centre at about 12.30pm, with town centre shops badly affected during what should have been a busy lunchtime.
About 11,000 homes and businesses were affected and Southern Electric told Newburytoday.co.uk that the original fault was reported at 12.30pm in central Newbury.
They said engineers had been dispatched to investigate.
However, several businesses and organisations started to report that power was back on at about 1.20pm, including Newbury College and the Corn Exchange.
At 2pm, Southern Electric spokeswoman, Sam O'Connor, confirmed that power had now been restored to all businesses and homes affected by the power cut.
Meanwhile, investigations are still continuing into the cause of the problem.
