Powercut on Faraday Road
13 Properties were affected when a power cut forced businesses to shut this morning (Saturday)
A POWERCUT on Faraday Road brought business to a standstill in a busy shopping district in Newbury this morning (Saturday).
Several business were affected when a power fuse blew at a substation, and Southern Electric confirmed that 13 properties were affected between 10.10am and 11.15am.
Most of the car dealerships and other shops between the A4 and Ampere Road were affected.
The owner of One Stop Garage, Steve Fish, said: “We had cars stuck on lifts and we couldn't get them down. We had to close early because of this.”
Others were a bit more tongue in cheek about it. An employee at Audi who didn't want to be named, said: “It was horrible. We didn't have any heat and we didn't have any coffee and our phones weren't working so we couldn't send for help.”
The power has now been restored.
