Preliminary results show elderly couple's death consistent with having fallen
Tests carried out yesterday (Mon) on the 89-year-old woman and the 94-year-old man who were found in a property in Berkeley Road on Sunday morning.
The woman was found dead, while the man was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment to injuries to his head, shoulder and ribs, but subsequently died.
They have been named locally as Jan and Maria Ziemba.
The preliminary findings of the post mortem seem to indicate that the lady may have suffered a medical episode and she has some bruising consistent with a fall.
The preliminary findings from the post mortem on the man seem to indicate injuries consistent with a heavy fall together with internal complications arising from him having been lying down for many hours.
The final results of these post mortems will depend on toxicological analysis and the Forensic Pathologist will produce a full report in due course.
Officer investigating, Det Chief Insp Gill Wootton, said: “While the preliminary findings of the post mortems into these two deaths appear to indicate a tragic incident, we are continuing our detailed forensic investigation at the scene and investigative enquiries in the area.
“We are acting on behalf of the family and the coroner to fully determine the circumstances around these deaths and also to preclude any third party involvement.”
