Premier League dream is over
West Berkshire's Reading FC fans will have a long journey home after losing to Swansea in play off finals
FANS of Reading Football Club will have a long journey home this evening after their team lost out on a place in the Premier League.
The club squared up to Swansea at Wembley this afternoon for the play off final but lost 4-2 after 90 minutes.
Two coach loads of supporters from Newbury and Thatcham joined 45 club coaches and thousands of other fans in making the trip up the M4 to see if the boys in blue and white could make it back to the Barclays Premier League after a three-year exile.
However the dream turned into a nightmare after Reading conceded two penalties and left themselves with too much of a mountain to climb.
Neburytoday.co.uk and Newbury Weekly News reporter and Reading super fan, James Williams who made the journey to the capital, said: “I'm absolutely gutted.
“It was an even game.
“The two penalty decisions were the difference.
“From the stands I couldn't see whether the referee made the right call on either occasion.”
