Thorngrove School welcomes 110 local schoolchildren to take part in netball festival




Thorngrove School welcomed more than 100 pupils from local primary schools to take part in its under-11 netball festival last month.

The annual sporting event took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 15, at Thorngrove on the Highclere prep school’s AstroTurf and hard courts.

Overall, 110 boys and girls took part from Kintbury, Hungerford, Hermitage, John Rankin, Falkland, Francis Baily, Brightwalton, Burghclere, St Nicholas primary schools, as well as pupils from Thorngrove as well.

Head of girls games at Thorngrove Lucinda Thomas said: “We were delighted to host nine local primary schools for their annual under-11 netball festival.

“The afternoon is run as a round robin event with Thorngrove staff providing coaching to all pupils to give them an opportunity to develop their skills, understanding of match play and, of course, to have fun.”

Most of the children that took part in the netball festival had played the sport before, but there was a real range of ability levels as well as the ages of the group ranged from Year 4 to Year 6.

There wasn’t an overall winner of the friendly event, and all of the participants received a medal for taking part.
