Caspian Mitchard becomes new director of music at Horris Hill School near Newbury
A prep school has welcomed aboard a new teacher to lead its music department.
Caspian Mitchard has been named the new director of music at Newtown’s Horris Hill School.
Mr Mithcard joins Horris Hill following stints at the Dragon School in Oxford and Lambrook School in Bracknell, as well as six years as deputy director of music and assistant house master at Oxford’s Summer Fields School.
Mr Mitchard will head the music department as well as becoming an assistant houseparent in The Hill boarding house.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining a school that offers so many musical opportunities, and can’t wait to get stuck in encouraging all Horris Hill students to partake in the manifold benefits that learning a musical instrument, or singing in a choir, or playing in a band, promises to every child.”
The music teacher has been learning organ since he was 12 and won several competition prizes as a teenager, going on to gain two ABRSM Diplomas and five grade 8 distinctions.
Mr Mithcard also holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge and is a keen sports coach, cricket being his favoured sport.
