Prickly hedges for extra Thatcham allotment security

Offenders from the Community Payback Scheme will help plant the 900 hedges at the end of the month

PRICKLY hedges are going to be planted around the northern and eastern edges of the allotments in Thatcham in an attempt to improve security.

A working group from Thatcham Allotment Gardening Club and offenders from the Community Payback Scheme will plant the 900 hedge plants at the end of February at Henleys Allotments in London Road.

Town councillor and chairwoman of the neighbourhood action group, Stephanie Steevenson (Lib Dem, Thatcham Central), said: “This is the first time we have suggested using the Community Payback Scheme.

“If it is successful, we might have other schemes in mind.”
