Pride to return to Newbury
After its hugely popular and successful introduction to the town last year, Pride is returning to Newbury later this month.
The Newbury Pride Parade 2023 will take place on Saturday, June 24 kicking off at Victoria Park at 1pm and heading through Parkway Shopping to the Market Place.
Pride Month takes place every year in June and is a celebration designed to recognise the influence of the LGBTQ+ communities around the world, including in the UK.
A Newbury Pride spokesperson said: “It truly promises to be a hugely successful and enjoyable event for everyone, whoever they are or whoever they love.
“We will be overjoyed if the people who showed us their support last year would come again this year as well as anyone else to have the safest possible enjoyable time.”
Newbury mayor Nigel Foot and his wife and mayoress Sarah Slack said they were looking forward to attending the event and they were pleased that Newbury Town Council is supporting it.
Mr Foot said: “We are honoured to have been invited to the second Newbury Pride event.
“Last year’s seemed to be a huge success and we are really looking forward to having great fun on the day. I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy themselves.”
Newbury Market will be trading as usual in Market Place alongside the festival and the Town Hall will be flying the Pride flag during the celebrations. There willl be extra stalls in Market Place and entertainment along the route.
Newbury Pride is run by a dedicated group of volunteer committee members, and everyone is welcome to join in the parade and celebrate alongside members of the LGBTQ+ community.
