Primary pupils shake up their wake up
Chieveley Primary School was among the schools that took part in the workshops, run by the Newbury and District Agricultural Society, which aimed to teach children the benefits of a healthy breakfast using ingredients from local farms.
The children were shown how to make porridge and fruit smoothies followed by a series of breakfast-themed games including egg and spoon races and ‘throw the toast’.
Also on the agenda was the opportunity to milk Buttercup, a life-size wooden cow model.
Education officer for the Newbury and District Agricultural Society, Jan Murray, said: “These workshops are in their fourth year and prove more popular every time.
“They provide a fun way for children from four to 11 to learn where our food comes from and how important it is to eat healthily.”
Teacher at Chieveley Primary, Sue Spooner, added: “It was educational, delicious and fun.
“The children really enjoyed making porridge and smoothies as well as learning about the needs and rights of cows.”
Other schools which took part in the workshops include The Willows Primary, Beedon Primary, Lambourn Primary, Welford and Wickham Primary, Enborne Primary, Bucklebury Primary and Sulhampstead and Ufton Nervet Primary.
