Compton Primary School celebrates library refurb

A school library has undergone a major refurbishment.

The Friends of Compton Primary School has completed a £2,500 makeover of its library to promote the importance of literacy and mental wellbeing among pupils following the disruption caused by the pandemic.

And now the project is complete, pupils have just completed a sponsored reading challenge — raising around £500 specifically to buy more new books.

FOCPS secretary, Louise Jackson-Burton, said: “Since the refurbishment, every year group is now having one lesson per week in the library, and the small groups that use it regularly for teaching report it being a much nicer space to learn within.

“Our team of volunteers worked hard to make this physical change happen.

“The teaching staff organised the old books and removed those no longer fit for purpose.”

The refurb included repainting the whole room, adding new furniture and books — both fiction and non-fiction — covering all ages from Foundation through to Year 6.

A new mural by artist, Julie Jones, was also added, incorporating the school logo, the Compton Stag.

The PTA raised the funds through various activities including Christmas fairs, a movie night and a school disco.
