Ecchinswell and Sydmonton Church of England Primary School launches library fundraiser

Ecchinswell and Sydmonton Primary School has launched a fundraiser to refresh its old library with new books after a recent audit found much of its current collection was out of date.

The school recently removed 500 antiquated non-fiction books from its library, which is considered to be more than 20 years out of date.

The school is hoping to reach its £6,000 fundraising target by next August.

Headteacher Sharon Pole said: “We are a small village school without easy access to a library and although we have the excellent support of Hampshire School Library Service we are unable to update our library as often as we would like.

“We are constantly reviewing our curriculum to ensure that it reflect the interests of our children as well as preparing them for life in the wider world, but we find it difficult to secure funding to keep the books in our library current, relevant and up to date.”

The Greenham Trust is match-funding all donations, meaning the school needs to fundraise £3,000 to reach its target.

“Books are a doorway to wondrous new worlds and inspire us to learn about the amazing planet and people who inhabit it.”
