Spurcroft Primary School raises £400 during Big Charity Week
Spurcroft Primary School and Nursery has raised £400 across two charity events last week, as part of its Big Charity Week.
This included the school’s annual Harvest collection for the West Berks Foodbank, with pupils, parents, staff and governors donating essential food and other products required by the local food bank.
On Thursday, October 26, the school organised a non-uniform day to fundraise for the Little Princess Trust, following a request from pupil Jessica Rycroft and school governor Nina Hopkinson to support the charity.
They both had their hair cut to donate to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer, and ran school assemblies to raise awareness for the cause.
Following the event, Miss Rycroft thanked her fellow pupils.
She said: “Thank you all for donating and helping the Little Princess Trust.
“I hope you may feel inspired to consider cutting your hair and donating it to be made into a wig for a child.
“It will make someone smile.”
The Little Princess Trust expressed its gratitude for the school’s charity work, and said: “Because of you, we are able to provide free, real-hair wigs to children with cancer and other medical conditions.
“You are also helping us to fund research into finding kinder and more effective treatments for childhood cancers… [which] will lead to a cure for paediatric cancers.”
Congratulating her pupils for their charitable efforts, headteacher Kate Flowerdew said: “We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to supporting the wider community.
“These successful charity events reflect Spurcroft’s ongoing drive to foster a sense of social awareness and responsibility among its students.
“By actively engaging in projects that promote community wellbeing, the school continues to nurture a culture of understanding, emphasising the importance of thinking of others.”
