Prize time for potholders




The awards for the best kept plots and best newcomers at Thatcham Allotment Gardening Club have been announced

THATCHAM Allotment Gardening Club recently held its annual prize-giving event for the best-kept plot competition recently.

The winners were Sandra Edwards and Linzi Brooks, and David and Ann Roper took the runners-up spot. In third place were Meryl Tautz and Justin Peckham and 12 plots were awarded highly commended certificates.

The winner of the best newcomer plot was Les and Roz Merry-West, and Deborah Aitken and Steven Mace were the runners-up. Four plots were also awarded highly commended certificates.

Thatcham mayor Lee Dillon was at the Burdwood Centre to hand out the awards.

The day also included fun competitions, such as the longest runner bean, the largest vegetable, and the funniest shaped vegetable, as well as cake and jam judging.

A barbecue was served after the prize giving.
