The Old London Apprentice pub on Hambridge Lane donates defibrillator to Newbury Community Football Group following fundraising project
After raising enough funds to purchase two defibrillators, a Newbury pub has chosen to donate one of them to the Newbury Community Football Group (NCFG).
The staff and patrons of The Old London Apprentice, located on Hambridge Road, decided to embark on the fundraising project after a customer was taken ill at the popular pub one-and-a-half years ago.
After several successful fundraising projects, the pub managed to raise more money than expected and so it purchased two defibrillators, one of which is now installed on one of the pub’s exterior walls.
The second was donated to NCFG on the afternoon of Sunday, July 2, as part of The Old London Apprentice’s beer festival.
Pub landlord Ken Amor said the whole weekend was “fantastic” as they also managed to raise £750 for Nomads Musical Theatre, a Newbury-based dramatic arts group.
Nic Robbins, who accepted the defibrillator from Mr Amor on behalf of NCFG, said: “We were absolutely thrilled. It was lovely that Ken chose our cause to receive the defibrillator.
“The football community of Newbury will get the benefit, well hopefully they don’t get the benefit if that makes sense, but it is there if needed.”
Mr Robbins hopes that the defibrillator will be permanently installed at the new football ground at Faraday Road that the Liberal Democrat leadership at West Berkshire Council has promised will be built.
