Public meeting over floods and sewage crisis

Present at the meeting will be Newbury MP and floods minister Richard Benyon, plus representatives from West Berkshire Council, Thames Water, local parish councils and the Environment Agency.
The meeting takes place in the Memorial Hall in Oxford Street, Lambourn, from 6.30pm.
All are welcome to attend.
Meanwhile West Berkshire Council is urging drivers to take extra care on roads in certain areas of the district as temperatures start to drop.
Among the areas affected by groundwater are the Lambourn Valley (Upper Lambourn, Lambourn, Easbury, East Garston, Great Shefford), East Ilsley, Compton and Hampstead Norreys.
These are mostly within the council's primary salting area.
However, because the water on the roads in these areas is so deep, gritting has no impact and they could potentially freeze over into sheet ice.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has issued an appeal to motorists to avoid travelling unless their journey is necessary.
If you must drive, they advise: ensure you have sufficient fuel for your journey and that you have a mobile phone,
ice-scraper, de-icer, blanket, shovel, jump leads, warning triangle, high visibility jacket or vest, hot flask and food in the event of getting trapped.
Stopping distances can be up to ten times longer in ice and snow.
