Public to see plans for new St Barts school building
A planning application is currently being prepared for a single storey building to be used for exams, independent study and extra performance space, as well as improving sports changing provision and offering additional storage room.
If permission is granted the new building will be located to the rear of the Patterson block and adjacent to the school hall.
Headteacher at the Andover Road school, Christina Haddrell, said: "We have been very fortunate to benefit from new school buildings and take pride in our facilities.
"During the build process, from 2008 to 2010, the school was required to set aside funds to cover any potential shortfall of phase two.
"That shortfall did not materialise and, as a consequence of prudent management of our resources, we are now in a position to invest further in provision and opportunities for our students and the community."
She added: "This project will provide St Bart’s with a versatile area which increases exam capacity, gives additional private study space for sixth form students, enhances storage space to support the school’s enrichment curriculum and complements school and community functions taking place in the school hall.”
It is anticipated the planning application will be submitted in September and, if approved, it is hoped building works will start in July 2013.
An open morning to view the plans and discuss the proposals with the architect and members of St Bartholomew's leadership team has been arranged for Saturday, July 14.
It will be held in the Robinson Rooms at the school from 10am until 12pm.
