Pupils at Spurcroft Primary School don different uniforms for Thinking Day

Pupils at a school in Thatcham dressed up in a number of different uniforms last week.

Spurcroft Primary School and Nursery was filled with Guides, Scouts and Sea Cadets.

The event coincided with ‘Thinking Day’ when the Guiding movement remembers its founder Lady Baden Powell.

The school’s two sea cadets led an assembly, something that the head teacher Kate Flowerdrew usually does on this annual event.

Mrs Flowerdrew said: “Today marks a special occasion for us all.

“It’s not only about the pupils already involved in such groups, but the opportunity to share interests and encourage others to come along and try.

“Our community is very fortunate to have so many clubs running and we hope that other pupils feel inspired to find out more.”

She added: “Normally I lead the whole school assembly today.

“But this year our two sea cadets asked to run the assembly.

“The whole school was enthralled by them talking about their meetings and demonstrating their saluting, marching and parade skills.”

One pupil said it was the best assembly that they had attended.

Year 6 teacher and guide leader Jen Osmond said: “Through Scouting, guiding, and other clubs, children learn valuable life skills, forge lasting friendships, and develop a strong sense of self-confidence.

“Today’s celebration reaffirmed Spurcroft’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only achieve academically but are also compassionate, responsible members of society.”
