Pupils due to return after fire at school

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 at Kennet Valley Primary School are due back tomorrow (Monday) following a fire last week

PUPILS at a Calcot primary school are due to return to school tomorrow (Monday) after being sent home following a small electrical fire on Thursday (January 27).

At about 10am, classes in an annexe building of Kennet Valley Primary School were evacuated to the main school building, in line with procedures, after a small electrical fire in the ceiling of the annexe building.

Fire crews attended the scene and dealt with the fire, while staff at the school were advised that the building should not be re-occupied until a professional survey of the ceiling had been carried out.

As a result, about 60 pupils in Years 5 and 6 were sent home and told not to return to school until tomorrow (Monday) and health and safety officers were called.

However, district council spokesman, Phil Spray, said on Friday (28) that although an electrical light fitting needed replacing in one of the four rooms in the annexe building, the other three rooms in the annexe building would be in use tomorrow and that all pupils were expected back in school.
