Pupils record song for royal wedding

Children at Bucklebury Primary School have recorded a song entitled 'Celebration Song' as a gift ahead of the wedding

CHILDREN from Bucklebury Primary School have recorded a song for the royal wedding.

Entitled ‘Celebration Song' the ditty was composed by eight year old Theo Powell, who wrote the tune and the first verse.

The school recorded the song, cut a CD, and are to send it to Prince William and Kate Middleton, the daughter of a Chapel Row family, as a gift ahead of their wedding on April 29.

Berkshire Maestros guitar teacher Ian Smithers wrote a guitar section, and another pupil, nine-year-old Evan Pocock, composed a guitar solo.

Headteacher Pippa Rowe said the idea came from a meeting of the School Council.

"We wanted to do something to celebrate what will be an important event in the lives of the children here as well as the nation, and the School Council came up with the idea of a celebratory song.

“We have some very talented children here, they are very musical.”

The pupils recorded the song in All Saints' Church in Upper Bucklebury.

She said: “We recorded it there because we are a Church of England school with very strong links with the church and our ministry team.

“When he becomes king, Prince William will one day be head of the Church of England, so it seemed appropriate.”

Mrs Rowe said they recorded the singing and the guitar music separately, and they will now be mixed together and made into CDs, one for each pupil and one for the royal couple.

The school is also planning a royal wedding street party on its playground on April 28, the day before the wedding, in which all the pupils will wear appropriate clothing to attend a real wedding.

Pupils invited the royal couple, along with Miss Middleton's parents, but Mrs Rowe said St James's Palace sent a nice reply which said the couple were extremely grateful for the invite but would be unable to attend.

Mrs Rowe said Carole and Michael Middleton had also declined, although other dignitaries will be attending, including the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, and the chairman of West Berkshire Council Graham Pask (Con, Bucklebury).

Here are the full lyrics for the Celebration Song:

Come with us all, to celebrate,

With William and Kate, their wedding date.

Come on let's go, to have some fun,

It's gonna be so great for everyone.

Lots of lovely food, blue sky, sun and more, Everyone around us is so full of smiles and laughter.

Lots of games to play, we're glad to see you here, Come on then and off we go to Bucklebury School.

Come with us all, young and old,

As Kate and William vow to have and hold Wedding bells ring, filling the air, Spreading the happy news for all to share

Lots of lovely food, blue sky sun and more, Everyone around us is so full of smiles and laughter.

Lots of games to play, we're glad to see you here, Come on then and off we go to Bucklebury School.

Come with us all, on this happy day,

The children of Bucklebury School would like to say:

"We wish for you, husband and wife

Long life and happiness, for all your life."

Lots of lovely food, blue sky sun and more, Everyone around us is so full of smiles and laughter.

Lots of games to play, we're glad to see you here, Come on then and off we go to Bucklebury School.
