Kintbury St Mary’s Primary School hosts sports event
A sports tournament hosted by Kintbury St Mary’s Primary School saw 60 children from three schools take part in an afternoon of games, writes Richard Maynard.
The event was organised after the Quad Kids tournament, due to be held last month, was cancelled owing to the weather.
Our photographer Phil Cannings was there to capture all the action, so keep scrolling down to view all of the photos.
So instead, Kintbury St Mary’s decided to host a small event and invited Francis Baily School, Thatcham, and Speenhamland Primary School, Newbury, to take part.
The sports co-ordinator at the Kintbury school, Clare Smith, who organised the event with teaching assistant Gail Goodwin, said they decided to hold the smaller event as the children had worked so hard training for the larger tournament.
“We did standing long jump, vortex throw, a sprint on a long distance, and each child competed in each event and went round all the various events,” she said. “The winning team for Years 3 and 4 was Kintbury, and the winning team for Years 5 and 6 was Francis Baily.
“It went really well. It was a lovely afternoon, everyone behaved really well, with lots of lovely sport.”
She added that the team from Speenhamland performed particularly well as they were competing against older children.
