Pupils take part in Readathon to help children in hospital
Park House School raises funds
PUPILS at Park House School in Newbury completed a charity Readathon last week to raise funds for children’s hospitals across the country.
Youngsters rose to the challenge, reading as many books as they could find in aid of the charity, while also earning the school free books, provided by Readathon in partnership with Scholastic Book Clubs.
Readathon, a nationwide charity, uses the sponsorship money raised to provide new books for children in hospitals, as well as supporting charities that help seriously-ill children.
English teacher Jenny Anderson said: “Readathon creates a real buzz about books in the school. I found children talking about books, sharing and swapping favourites and being genuinely motivated to read.
“Students could pick what they wanted to read; the sole aim was to simply read as much as possible. What’s even better is that it’s for a really wonderful cause.
“As a teacher, it’s great to see the students of Park House reading more and being inspired to try new titles that they might not previously have considered.”
