Purley man appears in court charged with causing death of two cyclists by dangerous driving

Defendant, Alexander Farrar Walter, aged 31, from Beech Road, Purley, appeared at a Reading Crown Court hearing earlier today (Monday), charged with causing the death of the cyclists by dangerous driving.
He was also charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and using a vehicle without insurance, after being remanded in custody at an earlier hearing.
Mr Walter is next due to appear at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday April 16.
On Thursday February 13, at 9pm, two cyclists, Reading Borough Council workers, 30-year-old father-of-two John Morland, of Elvaston Way, Tilehurst, and father-of-five, Kris Jarvis, aged 39, of Brocksett Close, Reading died, following a collision involving a BMW car on the A329.
An independent investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) continues into the role of Thames Valley Police (TVP) in the incident.
The IPCC is keen to speak to anyone who witnessed events on the A329 between Pangbourne, in the area of the police station and Texaco garage and Purley, close to the junction of Purley Rise and Westbury Lane where the collision occurred, at 9pm on Thursday February 13.
