Purley-on-Thames by-election results announced
Conservative candidate Richard, 'Rick', Jones kept the ward seat blue after being elected on 936 votes.
Labour candidate Ian Stevens came second with 172 votes. UKIP candidate Catherine Anderson polled 163 votes; while Stephen Bown, standing for the Liberal Democrats, came in fourth with 104 votes.
The turnout was 26.6 per cent and two ballot papers were rejected for being unmarked or void for uncertainty.
The election was triggered by the death of Conservative councillor David Betts who lost his battle with cancer in October after contracting pneumonia.
Mr Betts had been a council member since 2007 and had previously been the executive member for highways and transport.
Chairman of the West Berkshire Council Conservative Group, Emma Webster, said: “This is a fitting tribute to David Betts who sadly is with us no more.
"I should like to congratulate and welcome Rick to West Berkshire Council and thank the electors in Purley as well as the team from Reading West who helped him to achieve this splendid result.”
