Highclere's Thorngrove School put the fun into charity run in aid of Cancer Research
Fluorescent tutus, colourful wigs and even a ladybird were all spotted enjoying a fun-filled obstacle run at a Highclere school in a bid to raise vital funds for charity.
Pupils and teachers across all year groups at Thorngrove School dressed up to take on a range of stations, including a bubble area, scramble nets, bouncy castle, tackle pads and a slip slide.
The theme for this year’s fun run was ‘raise a smile’ and they certainly managed that.
One of the event organisers, Victoria McSorland, said: “Cancer Research is a charity close to many of us at Thorngrove and is something that brings us all together for a big fundraising event.
“It was the first whole school event we ran last year after all the Covid restrictions and the event brought us all together for a joyous afternoon of togetherness and fun.
“Older children mix with the very youngest – staff join in and dress up too and everyone gets squirted with water.
“It is a brilliant afternoon for such a worthwhile cause.”
Starting with the nursery children, each year group set off on the course – which took them through the playing fields and woods – to see how many times they could complete it in a set time.
There were Year 8s stationed nearby with water pistols to ensure that nobody finished without getting a soaking.
So far the ‘Race for Life Fun Run’ has raised more than £920, including gift aid, for Cancer Research – and it now looks set to become an annual event.
Marketing officer Charlotte Higgs said they had held their first fun run last year in a bid to embrace the community spirit at the school after lockdown.
“It was a fantastic day and a brilliant way to get the school together, both staff and children across all year groups,” Mrs Higgs added.
“It was a brilliant end to the week and raise a fantastic amount for such a brilliant charity.”
