Here’s where to find out more about about Ridgeway Council plans

West Berkshire residents are being invited to a series of events to explain proposals for a new, larger council.

A series of drop-in events are taking place at cafés, libraries and town and village halls across the area over the next few weeks to discuss ‘Ridgeway Council’ - a proposed new unitary authority that would cover the council areas of West Berkshire, South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse.

Could this be the new council area in which West Berkshire becomes part of Ridgeway Council?

Ridgeway Council is one half of a proposal that will be submitted to the Government later this year for two new unitary councils for the Oxfordshire and West Berkshire area.

The proposed two councils are Oxford and Shires council – made up of the existing council areas of Cherwell, West Oxfordshire and Oxford City – and Ridgeway Council, made up of the existing council areas of West Berkshire, South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse.

An online survey has also been launched to allow residents to give their views on councils and local service delivery, which is open for six weeks until July 16.

The ‘Ready for Ridgeway’ Roadshow events are taking place at Beansheaf Community Centre, Calcot, today (Wednesday, June 18), from 11am to 3pm; Newbury Library tomorrow (Thursday, June 19), from 11am to 3pm, and Hungerford Library on Wednesday, June 25, from 11am to 2pm.

The Government has indicated it intends for the new unitary councils to be implemented in May 2028.
