Quids in for Cruse as Sainsbury's celebrates big 20
Staff dressed up for the day to raise money for West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care, which was recently unveiled as the store’s new local charity of the year.
Customer donations, a
tombola, karaoke and fancy dress raised more than £420.
The charity was chosen after staff heard about the work provided by volunteers to help bereaved people in the local area.
The store has a number of exciting plans to work closely with the charity over the coming months.
Local resident and customer Margaret Sheppard joined Cruse volunteers and colleagues to cut a special birthday cake decorated by colleague Lynne Hutchins.
Mrs Sheppard, aged 79, cut the ribbon to open the Newbury store following the 2009 redevelopment.
She said: “Living opposite the store it is like my own corner shop.
“Everyone there is so kind and friendly and it was an honour to have been invited to join the 20th celebrations.”
Store manager Dene Burton said: “It’s always great when our team get together for a great local cause, so we’re delighted to be supporting Cruse during our anniversary celebrations.
“We hope the day helped to raise awareness of our partnership with them.”
