'Quiet, timid' girlfriend batters boyfriend with shoe
Court hears of 'unedifying spectacle in middle of town'
A JEALOUS young woman took drastic action when she thought her boyfriend’s attention had strayed.
Furious Nonhlanhla Ndovo whipped off her shoe and began beating him with it, Newbury magistrates heard.
Helen Waite, prosecuting, said the 23-year-old, of Hunters Hill, Burghfield Common, saw red when DeoDeogratias Shirima admitted that a female friend had tried to kiss him on a night out.
She added: “He did not want to make a statement, and she excercised her right to silence.
“But CCTV showed the unedifying spectacle in the middle of town.”
Ms Ndlovo, who has no previous convictions, admitted a charge of threatening behaviour on September 11.
Robert Jakes, defending, said the Crown had agreed to withdraw a charge of assault and proceed with the lesser charge because of her previous good character.
He added: “It is fortunate that they did, because she is getting a job as a care worker and the more serious charge could have affected that.
“She is normally a quiet, timid girl but alcohol changed that on this occasion.
“She hopes to draw a line under all this.”
Magistrates fined her £150 and ordered her to pay a £150 criminal courts charge with £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
