Quiz night raises £800 for flood relief fund

This included some 30 soldiers from 7Rifles, who helped protect the village during the winter floods and swapped their berets for thinking caps to help raise funds.
The event was organised by Vicky Brown to thank the soldiers for their sterling effort.
Miss Brown, who works at the pub, said: “The atmosphere was buzzing and full of fun and laughter. Everyone was mingling and meeting other teams and talking to the 7Rifles,
The representative from the Berkshire Community Foundation, Dave Soper, who set up the Berkshire Flood Recovery Fund, and mayor of Reading Marian Livingston, joined everyone for the evening, and also took part in the quiz.
Mr Soper said: “The soldiers said they had a fantastic evening and loved the thank-you cake we presented to them.”
Reeling in the quiz prize was Reading and District Angling Association, who also helped 7 Rifles with sandbags and the building of the dams during the floods.
The event raised £797, which came from donations, including raffle prizes, from Beale Park, Binghams Brewery, Amners Farm, Wellington Country Park, the Lookout Discovery Centre, Ascot Racecourse and Thames River Cruise.
The money raised will go to the Berkshire Flood Recovery Fund, which has offices in Theale and was launched in February to help communities suffering from the wettest winter since Met
Office records began.
