Newbury Racecourse abandons Friday’s BetVictor flat season finale due to waterlogged track
Tomorrow’s BetVictor flat season finale at Newbury Racecourse has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.
All racing tomorrow (Friday) has been abandoned due to the recent heavy rainfall.
There will be a 2pm inspection on Friday afternoon in the hope that Saturday’s race meet will still go ahead.
A racecourse spokesperson said: “After 13mm of rain yesterday in total and 3.8mm overnight (6.8mm since declarations) the track is not raceable and will not improve in time for tomorrow, especially considering the further rain forecast.
“All ticket holders for Friday’s racing will receive an email with further detail.”
Both Friday and Saturday’s flat finale race meets were taking place alongside an Oktoberfest event at the racecourse.
The German-themed event was billed as “a traditional Bavarian party complete with Newbury’s newly named beer as voted by you, Hoofmeister, steins, themed food including bratwurst and pretzels and oompah bands providing entertainment with racegoers encouraged to attend in their finest lederhosens”.
Tickets are still available for Saturday’s racing.
