Flume and slides plans submitted for Newbury Lido
Plans for a water flume and multiple slides for Newbury Lido have been put forward.
The spiral flume will be nearly six metres high, with the racer slides around three metres high.
They will have constant water running down them, with separate catchment baths at the bottom.
The lido – at Northcroft Leisure Centre – is currently closed and undergoing a £5m refurbishment.
The latest plans have been submitted by West Berkshire Council to its own planning department.
The lido size is to be reduced from 72m to a 50m Olympic length pool, with a new toddler splash pad and the racer slides.
The racer slides aspect of the development is the subject of this application.
The pool will also be shallower, at 1.5m, to allow for easier maintenance. And there will be improved changing facilities, including new ones for disabled access.
Existing buildings will be refurbished to allow all season entrance, as well as new changing huts.
The lido has suffered for many years with structural movement and leaks and ground stabilisation works have now been started.
Newbury Lido is owned by the district council and operated by Legacy Leisure.
