Radio fans rally to NADARS show

Nearly 1,000 people attend annual rally

RADIO enthusiasts young and old assembled at Newbury Showground on Sunday.

Almost 1,000 attended the 28th annual Radio Rally hosted by the Newbury and District Amateur Radio Society (NADARS).

Stations showing the various aspects of the hobby were on display, along with the opportunity to purchase
electronic components, second-hand radios and test equipment.

The stands included the British Amateur Television Club, British Young Ladies Amateur Radio
Association, Reading and Newbury Hackspace, UK Six Metre Group, Vintage police radio command and control truck and support vehicle.

Society chairman Jeremy Willis said: “The weather held off yet again this year, giving NADARS the opportunity to show the public what our hobby is all about.

“This is one of the biggest Radio Rallies in the South of England and our members work very hard to make this well-organised event the success that it has become.”

Amateur radio has been in the national headlines this past few months, as 10 UK schools made direct contact with astronaut Tim Peake in the International Space Station via amateur radio.
