Radiohead tape made in student days set to go under hammer
Newbury auction item with price tag up to £2,000
A tape made during the early, university days leading up to the formation of famed, Oxfordshire-based, Indie pop group, Radiohead, goes under the hammer at a Newbury auction next month (Sept) - with a price tag of up to £2,000.
Containing several tracks thought to be unreleased, the X90 chrome cassette tape made by Radiohead bassist, Colin Greenwood, while he was at university, is estimated to fetch £1,500 to £2,000 in the Music and Entertainment auction on Thursday September 10, at Special Auction Services, (SAS) at Greenham Business Park, near Newbury.
The tape, which contains eight tracks amongst other content, runs for 27 minutes and 19 seconds.
Five of the songs were written and performed by Greenwood's university band called Shindig - later renamed Radiohead - and released under that name.
The other three tracks are unknown and believed to be unreleased.
According to SAS, the cassette tape was given to the vendor in 1990 by Greenwood. They became friends through his former girlfriend at Peter House College, Cambridge where they used to meet socially.
