Reading Magistrates' Court: Thatcham rail cheat's £670 bill

A RAIL cheat has been landed with a £672.60 bill...for trying to dodge a fare of £8.60.

On Friday, September 17, Reading magistrates found Linda Drewitt guilty in her absence of trying to avoid paying for her ticket.

The 34-year-old, of Westfield Road, Thatcham, committed the offence on a Great Western Railway train at Theale on Tuesday, March 30.

Specifically, she was convicted of travelling without having previously paid her fare and with the intent to avoid having to pay it.

She was fined £440.

In addition, Ms Drewitt was ordered to pay £180 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £44.

Finally, she was ordered to pay £8.60 in compensation to the Great Western Railway company for the lost fare.
