Rail users face more misery after Christmas delays announced

Between December 27 and January 2, First Great Western trains between London Paddington and Taunton/Penzance via Newbury will be affected.
Services which usually run between London Paddington and the West of England (via Newbury) will be diverted via Swindon and will not call at Newbury or Pewsey, with most of them calling additionally at Swindon.
Replacement buses will be in place between Swindon and Pewsey, with journey times being extended by up to 60 minutes.
Last week, signal failures between Reading and Newbury and Slough and Paddington caused delays of around 90 minutes to journeys.
That disruption continued into the weekend and on Tuesday this week buses replaced trains between Newbury and Reading until around 9am and services were delayed for most of the day due to a signalling problem near Theale.
The train delays occured days after plans to increase rail fares by an average of 2.2 per cent from January 2015 were announced.
