Person dies after being hit by train near Thatcham Railway Station




A person has died after being hit by a train near Thatcham Railway Station.

Train services between Newbury and Reading were disrupted yesterday evening (Tuesday) due to emergency services responding to an “incident”.

The British Transport Police has now confirmed a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

It said: “Officers were called to Thatcham Station at 3.40pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Great Western Railway also issued the this statement at the time:

“We’re working with Network Rail and the emergency services to deal with an incident between Reading and Newbury as sensitively, quickly and safely as possible.

Train services are running as normal now.
