Rain fails to dampen carnival spirit

Lambourn smiles through the showers as it celebrates

DESPITE the rain, villagers lined the streets to watch Lambourn's 2011 carnival procession yesterday (Sunday).

Fears that this year's event was not as well supported as previous years seemed unfounded as a kaleidoscopic array of floats passed.

Superheroes rubbed shoulders with pirates and Hogwarts' wizards and witches and one diminutive knight on horseback captured the crowd's heart.

Afterwards many revellers packed into local pubs, some of which had bouncy castles and entertainment.

Others chose to do their own thing, with marquees in many gardens.

And finally, the sun even shone.
