Rain fails to dampen spirits at summer festival

The third annual Kennet Heath Summer Festival was a success despite heavy rain on Sunday (August 7)

HEAVY rain did not stop the fun at the third annual Kennet Heath Summer Festival on Sunday (7).

The Moorside Community Centre, Urquhart Road, Thatcham, saw its grounds filled with giant inflatables, penalty shoot outs and arts and crafts stands, including hand made jewellery and a cooking accessory stall by the Pampered Chef.

There was a licensed bar and young local bands performed for the crowds.

Prizes were awarded through a raffle and visitors could also guess the number of balloons in a car donated by Clover Leaf Honda, Newbury, to win a car for the weekend.

The event raised £700, which will go towards funding further events.

The Kennet Heath Residents Association holds two fund raisers a year, one summer and one Christmas event.

Money raised from these goes towards free, non-profit events throughout the year, such as Easter egg hunts and Halloween parties for local children.

Event organiser, Alex Cripps, said she was "very happy" with how the event went.

She said: "I think the weather did affect those who might have come along later but all in all a good day.

"The event seems to get more popular every year. I am looking forward to next year and in the mean time planning a Christmas event."
