Rain subsides but groundwater continues to rise
RIVER levels are dropping, the torrential rain has subsided - but flood warnings and the threat of groundwater rising is still causing concern in some parts of the district.
There are currently no severe flood warnings in place for the south east of England - but some flood warnings remain for parts of West Berkshire.
River levels on the River Pang at Bucklebury remain very high but are now falling very slowly. Levels are expected to remain stable over the coming days but will be sensitive to further rainfall.
The Pang in the Frilsham, Stanford Dingley and Bradfield areas remain high but stable. Levels are expected to remain stable over coming days but will be sensitive to further rainfall. Further disruption to low lying land and roads is expected. Many areas are also affected by groundwater flooding, especially in the Stanford Dingley area.
The Met Office says that due to the nature of groundwater behaviour in East Ilsley, West Ilsley and Compton, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer and impacts are expected to be similar to the flooding during the winter of 2000/01
River levels on the River Lambourn remain high but stable. Levels are expected to remain stable over coming days but will be sensitive to further rainfall. The river will remain split out into the floodplain for a few days and further disruption to low lying land and roads is expected. Many areas are also being affected by groundwater flooding.
Llevels on the River Kennet at Denford are slowly falling but are still very high. River levels are expected to continue to fall over coming days but will be sensitive to any further rainfall.
