Rambler spotted wearing only a smile
.
The eccentric former Royal Marine was spotted striding through falling snow in the Hungerford and Lambourn Valley at the weekend, sporting just a rucksack and a smile.
Freelance journalist and photographer Sara Bartlett was bemused to come across Mr Gough near her Lambourn home on Saturday morning.
She said: “My husband Frank and I saw him striding down Walkers Lane wearing a floppy hat and carrying a rucksack.
"He was very pleasant and nonchalant and asked us directions to Eastbury and East Garston.
"We gave him directions, he thanked us politely and off he strode. It was pretty chilly and snow was falling but he didn’t seem bothered at all.”
Staff at Lambourn’s Universal Stores said the village was buzzing with news of the latest exploits of 53-year-old Mr Gough, from Eastleigh, Hampshire, who has twice walked the length of Great Britain naked.
Others used social networking sites to say he had been seen on Hungerford Common, and some claimed that he had been arrested.
However, Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said that there was no record of him being arrested over the weekend.
Mr Gough had been released from custody at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, February 7, after a charge of outraging public decency in Oxfordshire was dropped.
