Rare chance to look around drained Aldermaston lock

Aldermaston lock has recently seen a flurry of activity, due to restoration work being carried out by the Canal and River Trust on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
Divers went into the canal to create a dam, prior to Aldermaston lock chamber being drained, then a 100 tonne crane lifted out the old lock gates, which are to be repaired.
Today (Sat), the drained lock chamber will be open to the public, who will be able to walk down into the empty lock chamber, with experts on hand to answer any questions.
Aldermaston lock chamber will be open between 10am and 3pm, parking available at Aldermaston Wharf, Padworth, Reading, Berks, RG7 4JS.
