Rare Churchill figurine to go under the hammer
A figurine of Sir Winston Churchill will be on sale at Special Auction Services on June 2
A RARE figurine of Sir Winston Churchill will go under the hammer at Special Auction Services (SAS) next month – and it may be swooped up by German collectors.
The figurine, which shows Britain's wartime leader painting at an easel is expected to reach between £300 and £400 and has already stirred international interest.
SAS toy train and figures specialist Bob Leggett said: “Germany is a great collecting nation, and like us, they love their toys. They have been present at a lot of our previous auctions and we expect some German interest again this time.”
The painted pre-production prototype was made in the early to mid-1950s when Churchill was still Prime Minister. At only 44mm high, the figurine forms part of an archive collection made by toymaker Roy Selwyn-Smith, made famous for his work creating Swoppets.
The Churchill figurine, along with others in the collection will be on sale at the New Greenham Park auction house on June 2.
