He further admitted a charge of coercive control.

Specifically, the charge stated that Mr Pierro "repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, namely controlling what Marie Pierro could wear, what she could do, who she could contact, controlled her movement and became aggressive and violent when (she) did not comply with these directions."

It went on to state: "At the time of the behaviour, you were personally connected in that you were husband and wife, that behaviour having a serious effect on her and you knew or ought to have known that the behaviour would have a serious effect on her."

That offence was committed in Beenham between Friday, January 1 and Monday, May 31.

Magistrates ordered pre-sentence reports to be prepared on an 'all options' basis, including custody.

Mr Pierro was meanwhile granted conditional bail.
