Meanwhile several town centre pubs have already held their own ghoulish themed events at the weekend.
Regulars dressed up at Wharf Street pub Document House, included a spooky Superman, with manager, Sidney Rosa, hauntingly attired in white top hat and tails:
“Loads of people dressed up despite the freezing weather!” said Mr Rosa.
Lee Marsh, manager of the Lock Stock and Barrel pub in Northbrook Street, said about 100 people turned up on Saturday night in costumes ranging from a lobster, to green goblins, to dance to haunting music by London band Soul Funk Secret: “I dressed as a ghostbuster,” said Mr Marsh, adding bar staff also dressed up.
Aaron Burgess, a barman at the Diamond Tap in Cheap Street, said around 300 to 400 people turned up for parties on Friday and Saturday night, including a zombie with a mechanised ‘baby’ strapped to his chest, the demon-possessed head of which span around.
On the outskirts of Newbury, at the Liberty Ballroom, Greenham Business Park, folks travelled from far and wide for the annual Spooktopia ball:
Ceroc (modern jive) dance teacher, Val Rokov said: “We had around 160 people there, as usual in amazing costumes. We even had people travel in from all over the South West, Wales, London and even as far as York!”
