Newbury duck race, organised by Newbury Lions Club, is back this weekend from Newbury Lock to Victoria Park, with tickets available from the Lock, Stock and Barrel pub
Ready, steady, quack!
Newbury’s duck race is a go this weekend. The Newbury Lions-organised event was rearranged after high water levels caused it to be cancelled back in April.
But it is back on Sunday (July 28) and 1,000 will take to the water and swim down the canal from below Newbury Lock to Victoria Park in a battle to see who makes it to the finish line first.
You can still buy a duck and tickets are available at the Lock, Stock and Barrel pub, which is sponsoring this year’s event.
Also look out for a wandering lion – and maybe a duck – in Newbury town centre before the race this weekend as they will have tickets too.
The race starts at 2.30pm and most of the ducks usually take about 20 minutes to reach the finish line in the park.
Newbury Lions will have a stall at the finish line and Kennet Radio will also be there entertaining the crowds.
It’s been a busy time for Newbury Lions recently, as they have also inducted a new president.
At a recent club meeting, members celebrated a successful year of support for the local community. Outgoing president, Margo Payne, thanked everyone for their support throughout the year and for all their fundraising efforts on behalf of those in need.
She then handed over the reins to Adrian Ho and wished him an enjoyable year ahead.
Mr Ho’s first duty was to present Mrs Payne with her Past President’s badge.
He also thanked her for her hard work during the past year leading the club.
